I am a qualified Nursery Nurse (SNNEB) and a childminder registered with Social Care and Social Work Improvement Scotland (SCWIS). I am also a member of the Scottish Childminding Association (SCMA).
I like to think that when children are with me they can relax and feel as comfortable as they do in their own homes. I set firm, clear and consistent boundaries helping children to understand my expectations of their behaviour, giving them the confidence to make the most of the fun and creative learning experiences on offer, both indoors and outdoors.
I have always seen my role as a facilitator - providing the opportunities and resources for play with minimum interaction from me. Children learn so many more social skills from playing without adult intervention; sharing, taking turns, self-discipline and tolerance.
I run my childcare business the old fashioned way with three core elements; I teach and expect good manners, I encourage independence and we have lots of outdoor fun and adventures in Plean Country Park, whatever the weather!
This is my home so it doesn't look like a nursery, all the toys and equipment are tidied up at the end of the day, that way I can relax in the evening and nobody would know the house had been full of children and activity all day!
Time outdoors, in nature, is a very important aspect of my childcare provision. I believe children benefit in a myriad of ways; they are experiencing a natural environment and learning lessons that they wouldn't necessarily have access to during nursery or school:
